Welcome to Teaspoon of Nose! I’m Emma, a twentysomething who’s excited for all the things life brings. Right now that mostly entails food to cook, the world to explore, books to read, fun to be had, and life to be lived.

Who are you anyway?

Who's behind Teaspoon of Nose? Here’s some essentials you should know me:

Travel and food are some of my favorite things. I’ve lived in North Carolina for most of my life, but have dreamt of living in faraway places since my grandma and I went to China at 16. Now that my husband’s in the military, we get to move around every few years and I love the chance to see so many places. Plus, I’m a believer that cooking adventurously is one of the best ways to travel even when you can’t get on a plane!

I think Jesus is pretty awesome and love to see the ways He’s bring healing and beauty to this world. It’s also worth mentioning that I love to connect with people – I can talk to a brick wall, and I try to be a good listener too. I started this blog as a happy melding of those things: a chance to write, to record the fun I get to have, to verbal process, and to connect with people who care about the things I care about.

Who's behind Teaspoon of Nose? I’m married to an amazing guy, Logan, who’s an Air Force JAG. We’re currently stationed in Altus, Oklahoma. This is our first assignment so we’re learning the ins and outs of military life I’ll share about life on base, as a military spouse, and in a small town!

What should I know about you as I read the blog?

  • Who's behind Teaspoon of Nose?

In Australia’s Blue Mountains, during my exchange semester in Sydney

I LOVE LOVE LOVE to travel. This is probably the 3rd most important thing in my life, after Jesus and Logan. Someday I hope to live abroad and/or pursue a career that allows me to travel. So far in life, I’m passionate about figuring out how to travel even when budgets are low and taking advantage of not having mini-Myricks or mortgages yet.

  • Who's behind Teaspoon of Nose?

I’m an adrenaline junkie. The crazier, the better. Whitewater rafting, bungee jumping, Zorbing, sledging: I love it. I’ve done all the aforementioned things (all during my time living in Australia and visiting New Zealand) and am always on the lookout for the next one! The one I’m sad to say I haven’t done yet: skydiving. Soon.

  • I absolutely love food. I would say I’m an aspiring foodie, but I don’t know if I’m discerning enough to earn the title. Particularly living in the place without many restaurants, I rely on cooking to feed my cravings for adventurous food. I make a lot of easy weeknight meals, but I’m also not afraid to try new recipes or cooking styles!
  • I love to read, but I am probably not the most discerning of readers. Meaning: my entertainment threshold is pretty low: tell me a good story and I’m sold. I dream of being well-read, so I’m working my way through as many classics as possible, but I’m somewhat ashamed to admit that I don’t love all of them (again, I need a good story).

So what’s with the name?

Like most toddlers, as a little kid I played a lot with my parents’ kitchen stuff: bowls, measuring cups, anything non-dangerous that was in the bottom cabinets. My favorite was the measuring spoons, and my parents love to tell me that I had a “teaspoon of nose” because I’d hang that one on my nose.

I created Teaspoon of Nose as a place to record my creative attempts – be they cooking, photography or writing – as well as pass on any nuggets of travel tips or life. Thanks for checking it out!
